About this property

Welcome to Kilbirnie Hotel

Situated on the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this casual hotel offers a convenient spot for visitors wanting easy access to Newquay’s beaches and town center. It is an 11-minute walk from two nearby beaches and about a mile from Newquay train station, making it accessible for those relying on public transport or flying via Cornwall Airport Newquay, just a 9-minute drive away.

The property features both indoor and outdoor pools, which guests have appreciated for relaxation, especially when the ocean feels too cold for swimming. Though the pool area and changing rooms receive some mixed comments, the pools themselves are generally regarded as a welcome facility. Guests can dine at the informal on-site restaurant or unwind in the lounge bar, with breakfast service noted for its classic options and good variety.

Rooms recently refurbished provide comfortable, clean accommodations with some offering sea views, an aspect highlighted positively in many reviews. While the hotel does not have air conditioning or an airport shuttle, it supports a range of needs with free Wi-Fi, paid parking, and pet-friendly policies. Families with children, as well as those seeking beach access and a smoke-free environment, may find this hotel a practical choice.

Guest feedback often commends the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, the welcoming atmosphere in public areas, and the convenient location close to notable local attractions such as Fistral Beach, Newquay Zoo, and Lusty Glaze Beach. Overall, the Kilbirnie Hotel suits visitors looking for straightforward accommodations near the coast in Newquay without extensive luxury amenities.

Stayed for one night whilst travelling to Cornwall. Check in was quick (even with the coach load of people who had just arrived in Reception!) Room was nice for what we paid for it and they allowed us to have our dogs in the room. Sea view was a bonus as well! Used the swimming pool; the changing areas weren't great but the pool was okay. The breakfast the next morning was nice. My husband was impressed with the cooked breakfast on offer, some vegetarian options would have been nice. The layout of the buffet for breakfast isn't great, especially when all the people from the coach trips decend onto the buffet as there is only one machine for toast and another for coffee so it creates pinch points and long queues. Good location, can easily walk into the town and to the beaches.

We had a fantastic stay! My family and I stayed for 1 night at the start of Sep and we all wished to stay longer. When we arrived, we were greeted so warmly by the reception, it felt lovely following a long drive down to Newquay (I didnt catch the name of the receptionist, we arrived on Sat 6th before 3pm). The rooms were spacious, clean and quite modern, in one of the rooms, we had 3 people and we noted that the additional single bed was a real one (not some sofa bed that other hotels have). The breakfast was great, it had all the classics. As part of the stay, we also got to use the pool which was great because it was too cold to swim in the beach. The pool is on the smaller side but it was warmed up (we didnt use the one outside). Highly recommend visiting!

Great hotel. Lovely and clean and great location. Breakfast was plentiful. We had a sea view room which I would recommend. Will stay here again next time we come down to Cornwall.

Stayed here for one night, so opted for a single bed. Dec 2025 around £40 for the room no breakfast. The hotel is situated on the cliffs, on the main road into Newquay Town centre. It has on site parking. Easy to find and a very welcoming front. Front rooms must have an epic sea view! On arrival, staff were very helpful and friendly. Even provided me with a hot chocolate from the bar. My room was room 212. Towards the back right of the hotel on the 2nd floor. The room wasn't sea facing, but for the cost I paid I expected it not to be. (Though I could actually see the beach through the buildings!) The room was compact, but not dingy. It didn't feel like a dorm room or anything. There was a wardrobe(with safe) desk and side table. Large TV with Tea/coffee faculties. I had my own bath/shower ensuite. The room was very clean, warm with windows I could open to let in the sea air. (And heating I was able to control - with a desk fan in the wardrobe). Hairdryer in drawer. One issue was the mattress needs replacing. It was very lumpy and not comfy. Also the walls were thin - i think the neighbours bathroom was against the bed wall, so I heard him go to the loo each time. I also and this is a bug bare with all hotels - why they can't can't have at least queen sized quilts on single beds. Single quilts are great for children, but an adult (I'm only 5ft 5), they just don't work. The other issue was that the cold tap seemed to run rather hot before it went cold, every time I used it. (Yes I was using the correct tap and I reported it). I had to go and buy a bottle of water from the Tescos Express next door. They had no USB sockets in any of the plugs (which there were plenty), so bring plugs with you. I enjoyed being able to have a very nice hot bath! (And a nice hot good pressured shower in the morning). I didn't opt for breakfast to save money, as its so close to town there are plenty of options to get something out. I would stay here again and I would recommend it. Great for a single traveller.

We have just returned from a wonderful 4 night stay at this hotel in Newquay. Location is perfect the staff are absolutely amazing so helpful and polite the waiting staff especially were extremely helpful, friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Also breakfast is the best can’t fault it at all. I note that people have mentioned about the parking bolt on but this was sent via email and very clear on booking.com before I went I also received a message to warn me of building works being carried out next door which is unfortunate but clearly not the hotels fault. My only negative was it’s a little tired and the bedroom was tired and you can hear a joining noise, although I found it to be plenty spacious enough. The other downside was the gym I was disappointed with that but again that’s not a deal breaker for me. Overall wonderful stay, apparently the bedrooms are being refurbished next year so that will be lovely. I will definitely return.
